WON H. LEE | Incorporeal Materiality
sculptor | toronto, canada/ korea

This month, Won Lee's sculptures, The Meditators, arrived from China where they were cast in bronze and are currently installed on the Sculpture Ranch on a hillside near the Studios Building

Won Lee (http://www.wonleeart.com) Won Lee is a Toronto-based sculptor. Born in Korea and trained in fine arts in the United States, his work has been shown and collected in North America, Europe, and Asia. Won Lee will lead a discussion on how Deluesean differences encounter differences of the material and differences of the moments to create my sculpture pieces that should stand on their own, emanating their own desires and differences through "affects and percepts."  Click here to view recent installation at a London sculpture park.

Artist's Statement

The material stares at me,
I stare at it back,
In time, it whispers,
I whisper back,
It takes me to its heart,
Feel its pulses, its wishes, its "affect".

A form emerges, accompanying me to the world of primordial,
To the world of sacred, where the primal desire roams free,
The profane dissipates, shamans speak the moment' truth.

I become the moment,
Become one with the moment,
The form becomes,
Becoming the moment,
The material becomes,
Speaks with "affect".

The work speaks,
Speaks of "incorporeal materiality."

Won Lee, May 2004

Celebration and Book Signing of:

Water from Stone

The Story of Selah, Bamberger Ranch Preserve

To read about Selah, The Bamberger Ranch Preserve to is learn about wisdom that is hard to find in these days of fast pursuits, internet and unhealthy food. The story of this unique Hill Country preserve, 5500 acres of once harsh, abused land now healthy, productive habitats for man, and wildlife - is the basis of this book, written by Jeffrey Greene, illustrated by Margaret Bamberger. And that evolution is a valuable review to be sure, especially for anyone wanting to learn more about land stewardship. But for me the rich tapestry of this story are the currents of other important life journeys, lessons and vignettes of the past. For example, J. David's conversations with his mother, Hess and her wisdom - curing herself of arthritis, her down-to-earth goodness that comes through in her insights, her habits and the way she lived her life; and the singular effort to make a difference in the survival of the Scimitar-horned Oryx, and the journey to Niger, recalled from J. David Bamberger's personal journey; and the illustrations by Margaret Bamberger of the wildlife, the grasses and the birds that surround them at Selah to name only three themes in the book.. Just as in life, the marriage of the work, the dedication and especially the creative passions of these two individuals makes for a memorable book - a worthy read for anyone interested in the Texas Hill Country and values of a time that needs to be recalled and replenished in our daily living...LB

The "Art" of Herbs

With almost 30 years gardening experience, Arthur San Miguel is ready to share his herbal secrets.  Learn how to have a manageable garden that yields tasty culinary flavors as well as adding splashes of color to your landscape.  If all herbs are productive and yield at the same time, they can leave holes in a once lush landscape.  Keep your garden fresh and full of color all year long by alternating and planting herbs more suited for each season. Herbs have additional functions than looking beautiful in your garden.  Art has many ideas for herbal culinary use.  Share in recipes for herbal vinegars and flavored oils.
