FEATURED ARTISTS for FEB 2005:
Arts Encounters at Beninis
Saturday and Sunday
February 26th and 27th,  2005

Sam Yeates, Painter
Austin, Texas

"Several themes currently run through my work. For the most part they are figurative and deal with our perceptions of relationships, fantasy and otherwise. One such theme is the fool and angel. In this series. I see the fool as the manifestation of misplaced desire for the unattainable, the angel."     For more information, visit http://lonestar.texas.net/~syeates/

Michelle O'Michael, Sculptor
Houston, Texas

"My artistic aesthetic springs from flat W. Texas land with steel trees of rigs and pump jacks. After studying art at multiple universities and museum schools, I graduated with a degree from the University of Texas at Austin. My paternal grandfather was a coal – field blacksmith. My sculpture is a continuation of this iron and steelwork which starts with dirt, survives the wind and ends in the sky."

Paul Sumrall
Houston, Texas
The Art of Metal Fabrication or the Fabrication of Metal Art.

Paul Sumrall of the Fine Arts Division of Blumenthal Sheet Metal will present an overview of some of their recent projects. In addition to work of sculptors like O’Michael, the company recently completed its largest fine arts project to date -- Leopard Sky – made possible by the City of Houston Civic Arts Ordinance - the $3 million project for the Houston International Airport, dedicated last month.

Sumrall will provide information on these projects and answer questions about the process of metal fabrication, its applications, shaping, bending, cutting, slicing for steel, stainless steel, etc. For more information, visit www.Blumenthal/art.htm.
