Filmmakers
Saturday only
A Fair to Remember captures the heart of the Lone Star state – big, spirited, and brazenly proud! Produced by award-winning filmmakers Allen Mondell and Cynthia Salzman Mondell and co-produced by Phillip Allen, the film takes you on a roller-coaster ride chronicling the history of the Fair from its inception in 1886 to its destination today as the largest and longest-running Fair in the country. Dazzling animation by Janimation (Spy Kids 2 & Spy Kids 3-D) and original music by Carl Finch and Brave Combo add pizzazz to dramatic archival footage and captivating interviews. Barry Corbin (One Tree Hill, Northern Exposure, WarGames, Urban Cowboy) lends his famous Texas drawl to the narration. The film has earned a Silver Telly, a Cine Golden Eagle, Silver Remi Award and was an Official Selection at the AFIDallas Int’l film Festival. It also won a 2008 Lone Star Emmy. The filmmakers will present 12-minute excerpts from the film. For more information on their projects, visit http://www.mediaprojects.org/.
Richard Boprae
Miami
Saturday only

I am a French Canadian artist, who lived throughout Asia, Europe, and South America, I find great interest in cultural diversity and I create work of arts that reflect my interest for architecture and design.I rely on my ability to convey my visions and transform them into a harmonious work of art that esthetically suits its environment. I consider my creations to be timeless and do not try to impose a subjective message other than an impression of beauty and creative spirit. My intention is for the viewers to provoke their own sense of meaning through an objective experience.
For this particular reason my work found itself suitable for public spaces and site specific installations. By incorporating my work to suit its environment, there is an increased possibility of unconscious relationships between the viewer and the art piece. As we progress into the new millennium, iIfeel it is important to transcend the precious legacy of those who lived before us. My work is greatly inspired from traditional art, as it is an homage to Native American hand-carving techniques. My self-taught style encourages the rebirth of the craftsmanship era, where pride lays in the execution and the exactitude of the result. The rich textures serve as the backdrop for designs and the final result brings my work closer to the family of sculpture and bas-relief...Boprae

personal artwork.
Linda and Ray Sriro, Guitarists
Gypsy Jazz
Saturday and Sunday
EAch guitarists for more than 30 years, Linda and Ray have refined their skillsto now focus on the music of Django Reinhardt - Django Reinhardt – arguably the finest jazz guitarist of all time. Manouche or Gypsy swing is a fascinating blend of Gypsy virtuosity and American jazz. In 1930s France, this new ‘swing’ music had a profound impact on the local musical scene and although the music’s creator died in 1953, his music remains highly influential to this day. Django Reinhardt created a tradition, which has been perpetuated and developed by many exceptional contemporary musicians. His style of guitar is not well known here in the states, but is beginning to gain popularity among the classical and jazz musicians, as there are similarities in both styles. The Sriros have acquired instruments which are faithful reproductions of the Maccaferian style guitar that Django played and have participated in many Django Festivals around the state.

Bill Reid
www.FewerSorrowsMusic.com
Notes from a previous conversation with Bill...."Fewer Sorrows Music" (thank you for asking) comes from the words of a song I wrote many decades ago. It is now a dba for my orchestral and folk/country/children's writing. The words are on the website (www.FewerSorrowsMusic.com), but that particular verse is
. . . This is your Christmas Song,
For all the colored autumns that I saw with warmer eyes and fewer sorrows.
For a soft smoke in a valley from a fire in someone's cabin
That makes me feel he's warm and dry and living.
My performances, such as they are, tend to be "cover songs"; that is, mostly things written by other people. My own work has been performed by a few folks, notably Judy Collins, but not recorded by anyone other than me. If you know Garth or Willie, pass them along.

ARTS Encounters at Beninis, a bimonthly social, cultural weekend
continues in 2009
its fifth year at the Benini ranch located off Flat Creek Road near
Johnson City - when speakers from around the country
share their expertise and passion for creative and informative
topics.
ARTS Encounters began when visitors
to the fine arts project were curious about the sculptors whose work
is featured on the hillsides. As more people became involved, the
topics extended to additional fields, including the performing arts,
medicine and healing, dance, gardening and more.
